| Primier Division Final | updated April 28, 2009 |
May 3rd is the date that will see the top two teams in the BCL battle it out for the Premier Division title for season 2008/2009. Bangkok Cricket Club will play Bangkok Stars Cricket Club in the decider. On Saturday 25th April, Bangkok Stars advanced to the final with a heart stopping 3 run victory over a very talented RBSC team at the AIT Ground. It was a well deserved victory for the Stars over an RBSC team which boasted no less than 5 current National Team players. Bangkok Stars were put into bat and despite a shaky start, scrambled their way to 7 wickets for 228 after their allotted 40 overs. Murali Rao top scoring with 61 followed by Abdul Rehman with a quick fire 56. Ashish Dey picked up 3/32 for RBSC. Though a reasonable target, it was no way non achievable and RBSC went straight after the runs with opening bat and National Team skipper, Zeeshan Khan blasting 104 runs off just 44 ball which included 9x4s and 10x6s. However, the Stars kept up the battle and managed to bowl RBSC out for 225 and surprisingly in only 27 overs. Bangkok Cricket Club took on AIT on Sunday 25th and with Bangkok CC batting first, and with a minor middle order collapse were bowled out for 173. Manish Lakha top scored with 36. Kanchana and Kush both picked up 3 wickets a piece for AIT. Chasing 173 is not a hard task at AIT however AIT found themselves in despair as their innings fell away to be 9/36 and with only a matter of time before their season was over. Enter #7 Qaiser Yasin and #11 Javeed Anwar. The pair added 103 runs for last wicket which almost saw AIT home and certainly did cause panic and concern in the BCC camp who looked like they could miss out on their 4th consecutive final. Facing his 99th ball, Qaiser was bowled by Thasi and the season was over for AIT with Bangkok CC winning by 34 runs. Qaiser finishing with 78. Finally in the lower divisions, the semi final spots are up for grabs between Southerners, Fortune and Bangkok Stars in the A Division with the last round of games being play May 1st which would see one of these 3 teams miss out and end their season early. Bangkok 11 CC are already top in the A Division and go straight to the final May 10th. The B Division semi final is between Southerners and Bangkok 11 with the winner playing Bangkok CC is the May 10th Final. Bangkok CC pipped Southerners for top spot with a win over Thai Thevada in their last round game. | |
